The biggest mistake that people make when trying to get virtual assistant jobs from home is that they don’t choose an area of specialization. So this list contains the top five remote virtual assistant jobs that are great for beginners.
1. Outreach Specialist
The first one that I want to talk about is getting virtual assistant jobs as an outreach specialist. Essentially, what you’d be doing is you would be generating leads or prospects for your clients through social media.
To paint a clearer picture, let’s take an example. Let’s say you work with a client who sells online courses and what they need from you as their virtual assistant is to get in touch with more people who fit their ideal customer avatar to make them aware of this offering, or sometimes to make them aware of a Facebook group or an Instagram account where they could learn more about this.
So what this company would do is, they would give you the details of the kind of people they want to engage with – the demographics of their ideal customer avatar, their ideal age group, gender or the country or region they have to be living in. And sometimes, they’ll tell you where to find these people.
And then, what you would need to do is understand that ideal customer avatar and you would need to find them. You would need to engage with people through social media. So that would be through Facebook DMs or through Instagram DMs.
What you’re expected to do is to be able to have genuine communication with people through those social media platforms. And the idea is that you would genuinely engage with them, build a connection and build a relationship and understand if whatever you’re offering them is suitable for them.
So to become a member of a Facebook group or follow an Instagram account or check out an offering for those online courses, you need to understand if those would actually benefit the person that you’re engaging with, only then, will you make them aware of this kind of opportunity.
So make sure that if you choose to go down this path, you do this with an ethical behavior and you don’t convert it into spam. Nowadays, lots and lots of people do this the wrong way.
And not only does this not generate many leads, it actually erodes the public’s trust in that company as well.
What it takes to be an outreach specialist:
- You need to enjoy talking to people and enjoy meeting new people every day.
- You need to enjoy learning about their story and genuinely engaging with them in order to see if whatever you have to offer would benefit them.
- You should also be able to use social media and I’m assuming you are, since you are on one of those platforms right now.
- You need to also be able to use technology and software. You can easily do this job on your phone,
but using a computer or laptop is actually recommend because it will make the job easier – you would be able to have multiple tabs open.
- Obviously, you need to have a good internet connection and you would need to have knowledge of how to use a regular internet browser like, Chrome, Mozilla, Safari etc.
There could be other requirements a company hiring for this role may require from you but all in all, this is a pretty straightforward opportunity that you could do as a remote virtual assistant.
2. SEO Expert/Analyst
The next remote virtual assistant job that you can do from home is be an SEO Expert/Analyst or pretty much anything related to SEO – search engine optimisation.
Social media platforms and Google are definitely here to stay, and the way they operate is based on search engine. And in order for anyone to show up in search on any of these platforms is through search engine optimisation (SEO).
Let’s say, for example, that I have a Youtube account with videos. Now, the videos on my YouTube channel need to show up in the search results whenever people search for the kind of topics that I talk about on my channel, right?
What this means is I need to do some SEO work and optimize my videos in order to have YouTube propose them and show them in search results to people who are interested in learning more about or working from home and online jobs.
As an SEO Expert/Analyst, this is where you come in and what you would need to do is understand
the topics that the channel you’re working with wants to cover and show up in search for. Then, you do the research using tools which are mainly specialized in YouTube. There are basically tools for any platform out there, including Etsy, Google etc.
What it takes to be an SEO Expert/Analyst:
No matter what kind of platform you choose to specialize in as an SEO Expert/Analyst, what you need to do is understand the business or the content type of your client and then use tools to do research and to figure out what are some really good keywords that they can use, that they should be ranking for that people actually search for.
If being an SEO Expert/Analyst is something for you, how you can learn about SEO is pretty straightforward. You can do it for free on YouTube, or you can use paid courses like Udemy or Skillshare.
3. Online Community Manager
The third example of virtual assistant jobs that you can work from home job right now is being an Online Community Manager. Reports out there have it that there is a lot of demand for this kind of work.
So again, let’s take my fictitious Youtube channel as an example. And let’s say it has a lot of followers and gets lots of comments. This also applies to Facebook and Instagram pages.
Considering that there’s only so many hours in the day and I physically will not have enough time to keep responding to every comment and to give the right answer and continue providing value to absolutely everyone who engages on any of my social media platforms – I may choose to hire an online community manager who will help me get people involved, drive engagement, answer to people’s questions and give them guidance and allow them to make the best out of their participation in my community.
So if you are somebody who enjoys spending time on social media and you like the idea of communities and groups of like minded people who have a common interest, then this virtual assistant role might be a great idea for you.
What it takes to be an Online Community Manager:
To work in this role, you basically would just need to obviously have a connection to the internet. You can do this job from your own phone or from a computer, and you would need to be available for a certain amount of time in a day, according to the demands of your employer. Probably every day or every other day, depending on the scale of the channel or the Facebook group/page or Instagram account that you are supporting.
Again, you would need to be able to answer questions, provide guidance, give advice, look for things, support the community in your care. The idea is that you would be managing that community and you would be engaging with them and they would probably become, you know, your friends, your extended family over time, which I think is amazing especially if you also have an interest in the topic
that this online community you would be managing is all about.
So definitely check this out virtual assistant job out. There are tons of demand for this kind of jobs already on Upwork, but also you could just go and reach out directly to the people that manage the Facebook groups or the Instagram accounts or the YouTube channels that you are personally interested in and that you think you could be able to provide value to as a virtual assistant doing online community management.
4. Channel manager
The next example that I have for you, if you’re looking for remote virtual assistant jobs, is a Channel Manager. This is a role you can do together or separately with the Online Community manager role.
Essentially, what you would be doing on this role is, you would help someone like a blogger schedule posts, upload posts, make sure that thumbnails are done properly. When the blogger has, let’s say, collaborations, you need to make sure that the scheduling is done properly and that the content is produced on time.
If this is something that you enjoy and if media is a space that you feel comfortable in, I’ll encourage to go for virtual assistant jobs like this.
What it takes to be a Channel Manager:
In order to be someone’s, let’s say, YouTube channel manager or podcast manager or Instagram account manager, you don’t really need a lot of media knowledge or experience.
What you would need to have is an understanding of how that channel works and how, for example, in the case of YouTube, how you would need to upload a video , or what is the information required to properly upload the video or how to schedule a new post and so forth.
And these are things that you can very easily learn right now by just searching on YouTube. Or you could take a course if that makes you feel comfortable and feel more empowered to support that person.
But this job is definitely something that you could easily start doing right now, even if you’re a beginner looking for virtual assistant jobs that you can do from home.
5. Market & Competitive Research
Last, but not least on our list of virtual assistants jobs is something that I’ve seen more virtual assistants who work from home actually offer, and that is internet research. These virtual assistants go even deeper into things like competitive research or market research or ideal customer avatar research.
If you want to go for remote virtual assistant jobs, specializing yourself as an internet research specialist or analyst could be a really, really good idea so that you can stand out from everyone else who just offers generic virtual assistant services.
What you would be doing as an internet researcher:
As a market researcher or competitive researcher or ideal customer avatar researcher, you would be looking to understand what your client is looking to find out. And then you would use your knowledge of how to search on the internet.
You could do this job on your phone, or you could do that on your computer and find answers and run an analysis for your client that could end up being a PowerPoint presentation or a Word document or just an Excel with a list of things that you found out. This depends on really what they’re asking you to look for.
When you collaborate with a company longer term, you would get this kind of requests, if not every day, probably every other day. And this is because they’re always looking for something like can you research for me examples of partners that I could work with in this space, or examples of other companies offering similar services with me in that country, or examples of similar products that my clients, my ideal customer avatar is interested in and so forth?
So there are an infinite number of possibilities or things that you would be researching. And the idea ultimately is that, not only do you understand the need for what you have to search, but also how the output of your work would be used by your client so that whatever you give them is actually useful, valuable and that can be used to take action.
The more you do these jobs, the better you will become and the more successful you will be as a virtual assistant providing internet research services.

This company pays about $10.00 per hour and part of your role as their virtual assistant is to handle phone calls through your computer and a headset while working from home for multiple businesses throughout the day.
You will be required to be able to type 50 words per minute and also be helpful, emphatic and pleasant.
24/7 Virtual Assistant
This company pays about $10.00 – $12.00 per hour and hires VA’s of different skill levels. Pay is adjusted according to your skills.
99 Dollar Social
This company pays about $12.00 per hour and are looking for Virtual Assistants to write short social media posts and curate articles and photos for clients. For you to be considered for a job, copy writing experience may not be required but you must be able to speak and write fluent English.
This company pays about $3.00 to $7.00 per task and you are able to do multiple tasks per hour. Tasks available include data entry, making phone calls on behalf of people (such as canceling their cable), tracking down the best price for something, finding hotels that meet certain criteria and scheduling appointments (doctors, business, etc). No prior Virtual Assistant experience is necessary.
VaVa Virtual Assistants
Reports say this company pays about $15.00 per hour with a monthly pay range between $200 – $1,500.
The tasks you’ll work on if hired by this company include data entry, cold calling, scheduling meeting and setting appointments. Depending on your skills, you may join the team working on podcasts, designing websites and landing pages, creating social media posts and advanced marketing.
Pay is said to be around $8.00 – $16.00 per hour.
This company hires US based remote freelance to act as Executive Administrative, known as EAs, to provide support and project management to their clients.
Some of the duties you’ll do include Email Management, CRM Support, Travel Planning, Project and Event Management, Process Management and Calendar Management.
This company takes on independent contractors who are Executive Assistants, Bookkeepers and Web Specialists skilled in their profession.
This company’s pay, according to reports, starts at $20 per hour.
Boldly is a Virtual Assistant company that hires Executive Assistants, Marketing & Social Media Specialists, Project Managers, and Paralegals
