Phyllis George, former Kentucky first lady and Miss America, dies at 70 ; so sad to hear this, as Phyllis broke barriers for women in Sports Television.

It wasn’t easy, and well documented that many made it tough on her. Proud to have known her. Folded hands Folded hands RIP.

My heart breaks, #PhyllisGeorge has died.

Because of her I became a pioneer in the world of women sports broadcasters when I took the NFL TODAY desk. Ironically in all these years we never met!

Thank you Phyllis for opening the door. Believe me I know the challenges you faced.

  1. I was admirer of Phyliss back in the 70’s and had the wonderful lifetime experience of meeting her in 2003 at a breakfast as she was promoting her great book. Such a beautiful lady on the outside and the inside. She spent time speaking to me and was very charming, brilliant, and a down to earth lady. It was clear that she loved her children a great deal from our conversation. I am sorry for the family’s loss as our world has lost a very kind wonderful trailblazer. Heaven has gained an angel.
