Friends have described Khotso as a visionary, a creator and a leader for evolutionary change in the world and his work was far from finished.
Headwaters school announced Khotso Khabele death in a statement that read:
It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of Khotso Khabele’s passing.
In 2001, Khotso, along with Moya McIntyre, Lisa Dubuque Wood, and Hector Perez, began The Khabele School with values of “Freedom, Self-Expression, and Excellence.”
His impact on students and parents shaped The Khabele School and led the way to Headwaters School today.
We are so thankful for his vision for education and our community aches from his passing.

One of my student’s fathers passed away in a sudden accident yesterday 😰 I’m am so shocked at saddened by the loss, and the huge empty space it’s leaving in his family and our whole community.
He was an inspiration to so many, and was the visionary behind the creation of our school. His smile lit up the room, and his presence always calmed me and lifted me up. Holding you and your family close Khotso Khabele.

Heartbroken and shocked to learn this morning that a dear friend and mentor, Khotso Khabele, has tragically and unexpectedly passed away. My heart breaks even more for his three beautiful children. Khotso was a visionary, a creator and a leader for evolutionary change in the world and his work was far from finished.
Khotso, you touched so many lives and your impact will no doubt ripple out through our communities for decades to come. I’m so grateful to have recently reconnected and rekindled our collaborations, and I’m gutted to feel this loss.

Today has been rough. Last night my mentor, teacher and friend Khotso Khabele passed away unexpectedly.
I can’t put words on what this means to me. I’m shaken and lost. I’ve finaly been able to bring myself to rewatch this video he made for me on my 30th birthday.
I’m so grateful to have this video but devastated to know that I won’t be able to look into his eyes again. I cannot find the words… Love you Khotso
It has been a tough few days. The loss of Khotso Khabele has been incredibly difficult for all. He was a light in the world, a leader for integrity, honesty, and perseverance. It is hard to come up with words that describe how unbelievable this is.
Khotso taught me to believe in myself, to love others, cherish friendships and learning, and be the best person I could be. He was and is truly the embodiment of a profound role model, teacher, and friend.
He will be greatly missed. My heart goes out to all; especially the Khabele family. Moya McIntyre and family, khabele students and teachers, and all who knew this wonderful person, you are all in my prayers.

While I only knew him for a short, I knew him to be a very kind and generous soul. I had the pleasure of working with him on an event last year and during that time we had great conversations about life, the brain, and our spiritual existence. He had such big dreams and hopes for the world. He did so much for people and his community. He will definitely be missed. The world was a better place with him in it. I am happy I had the pleasure of knowing you Khotso. I only wish more people would have had that pleasure…
