Vale A/Prof Jean-Pierre Macquart. We’re saddened to learn of J-P’s passing overnight. His inimitable character and passion for science will be sorely missed by his friends and colleagues, in Australia and around the world. Our thoughts are with his wife Sherine and family.

Last night, we lost a great astronomer @ICRAR/@CurtinUni.
Jean-Pierre Macquart was a truly unique person at our institute. I look back happily at many conversations during J-P’s weekly rounds in the PhD offices looking for a challenge from our “young creative minds” (his words).

Jean-Pierre Macquart was a fabulous scientist. I had the privilege of serving with him on the ANITA steering committee from 2015-2019. Below is the conference photo he took for ANITA2018. He will be missed!

  1. Still in shock hearing about J-P – a great loss. A very lively, enthusiastic, and challenging colleague, and a lot of fun to hike with. I (and many others) will miss him very much.
