Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya, also known as Katya Alexandrovskaya died July 18, 2020, at the age of 20 after jumping out of the 6th floor window of her Moscow home.

Katya left behind a heartbreaking note that simply said, “Lyublyu” (Russian: Люблю, lit. ‘I love’). Her battle with depression was well-known, and she had also been diagnosed with epilepsy, commencing treatment for the condition in January 2020.

An investigation by The Australian and The Daily and Sunday Telegraphs into Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya final years reportedly uncovered a series of challenges she faced, including missed concussions, alcohol dependency, homelessness, and financial difficulties.

The newspaper investigation revealed Katia had recently been given an epilepsy diagnosis and told she could never skate again.

Reports from DailyMail alleged that Alexandrovskaya had been compelled to work in a striptease club to make ends meet.

During her time in Sydney, Alexandrovskaya faced significant challenges. She grappled with the loss of her father, which triggered heavy drinking. Financial hardships added to her struggles as due to funding cuts in the ice skating world, she frequently found herself sleeping on friends’ couches.

However, she eventually secured a job at Canterbury Ice Rink, where she contributed to children’s parties and found solace in building new friendships.

Katia Alexandrovskaya’s friends and former coaches reportedly said that she felt her life had fallen apart in the period leading up to her tragic passing. The isolation imposed by the pandemic lockdown is suggested to have exacerbated her struggles as she tried to rebuild her life.

Five years prior, she had experienced the sudden loss of her father, which had a profound impact on her. Her mother was also deeply affected and was hospitalized with shock following the heartbreaking Katya death in Moscow.

Hello everyone
First off I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been involved in my skating journey this far. It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart to announce that Katia and myself have decided to end our skating career together as a pair. Due to health concerns, Katia and I are unable to continue. I want to take this opportunity to wish Katia all the best in the future and a quick recovery. Over the last four years we have been through so much as a team, from first pairing together, winning our first jpg, winning junior worlds, Katia becoming a Australian citizen all the way to experiencing the Olympics together!! The time we had together has been a great eye opener, it has helped me learn and develop into the person I am today and for the person I hope to be in the future. So again thank you Katia for everything and wish you nothing but the best for the future. Our journey may be over but I still want to continue my pairs career and will still keep training full time.

Only for Ekaterina Katia Alexandrovskaya death to happen five months later. Harley mourned in a post on his Instagram that read:

Words can not describe how I feel right now, I am devastated and sick to my core about the sad and sudden passing of Katia. The amount we had achieved during our partnership is something I can never forget and will always hold close to my heart. This news is something you can never prepare for. Rest In Peace Katia.
