The 47 year old University Park firefighter was shot in the head after his wife, 32 year old  lured him to a rural Hunt County road on Sept. 9, 2016.

There, Chacey Poynter lover, Michael Glen Garza, shot her husband Bob in the head.

The Poynters, who had married in 2009, were in the midst of a divorce at the time of Bob’s death.

Chacey Poynter was seeing Garza during her marriage, according to arrest warrant affidavits.

Claiming that her husband abused her and told her she won’t get custody of their young daughter,

Chacey started planning Bob Poynter slaying with Garza.

Prosecutors said the day before the slaying, Poynter texted Garza and said:

“I can’t love you unless Robert is out of the picture.”

The next day, Chacey Poynter had sex with Garza at his house and they made plans to have the shooting look like a robbery.

Police said on the day of the murder, Poynter called her husband after making it look like her Jeep was stuck in the mud. They met on County Road 2595 and walked back to the Jeep, where Garza was waiting.

As Bob Poynter went to move the Jeep back onto the road, Chacey Poynter yelled “Stop!” as Garza shot him once in the head.

When she tried to call 911, Garza threw her cellphone into some mud.

Police added they were called to the scene when passersby reported that a woman — Chacey Poynter — was trying to flag them down.

Chacey led officers to her husband’s body, but then gave “suspicious and conflicting” information to Royse City detectives.

Police wrote in her affidavit:

She later told police that “she did not want Robert Poynter dead. She only wanted him to hurt the way he made her hurt.”

Garza turned himself in to authorities two days after the shooting.

Where are they today?

39 year old Michael Glen Garza was found guilty of murder in 2018 and sentenced to 99 years in prison. He is appealing the conviction.

Chacey Poynter was later convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.

Prosecutors did not seek the death penalty in the case, so Poynter was automatically sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole when she was convicted

Chacey Poynter, in tears, told CBS in a recent interview about her late husband:

When I’m awake, I see his face. When I’m asleep, I see it. It hurts.
It’s something I can’t get out of my head.

Robert Poynter had three daughters: a 6-and-a-half-year-old with Chacey, and from his first marriage, Natalie and Nicole.

Robert was married to his high school sweetheart Amy Poynter for 20 years before getting married to Chacey in 2009. Chacey was 22 and he was 40.
