Adrian Medearis killed, cause of death – dead, obituary, funeral plans: Houston gospel singer Adrian Medearis died in a tragic early morning incident still under investigation by the Houston Police Department.

The 48-year old singer founded the contemporary choir, God’s Anointed People (GAP). His death has sent shock waves in his community.

Adrian Medearis was also a director for the PVAMU BSM gospel choir where he connected with many Houston artists.

The North Freeway driver died after he was shot to death Friday morning by a Houston police officer Officer Ramos, of the DWI Task Force during a traffic stop.

The 48-year-old driver had been pulled over in a parking lot on Esplanade for going more than 90 mph around 1:05 a.m.

A struggle however broke out when the Houston police officer who pulled him over administered a field sobriety test, determined the man was possibly drunk and then tried to arrest the man.

According to Houston Police Department, during the altercation, the officer pulled out his Taser and fired it, but at some point the suspect was able to get the Taser in his hands.

That’s when the officer fired several rounds. Police say the suspect was shot at least twice. He was transported to the hospital where he later died.

Police say the officer’s body cam and dash cam were recording during the incident.

Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a suspect by an HPD officer at 11710 North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) service road about 1:30 a.m. today (May 8).

The deceased male is identified as Adrian Dewand Medearis, 48.

Officer J. Ramos, who discharged his duty weapon in the incident, was not injured. Officer Ramos is assigned to the Traffic Enforcement Division and was sworn in as an officer in May of 2013.

HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant R. Bass and Officers M. Millington, L. Lopez, S. Martinez and J. Hartnett reported:

Officer Ramos, of the DWI Task Force, conducted a traffic stop of a black BMW at the above address. The officer made contact with the driver (later identified as Medearis) and conducted a DWI investigation.

When Officer Ramos attempted to place Medearis under arrest, a physical altercation ensued. During the confrontation, Medearis was able to gain possession of Officer Ramos’ Conducted Energy Device (Taser) and pointed it at him. Officer Ramos drew his duty weapon, in fear of serious bodily injury or death, and fired multiple times, striking Medearis.

Medearis was provided first aid at the scene and then transported by ambulance to HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

As is customary when an officer discharges a weapon in the city limits, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

At this time of writing this story, Adrian Medearis cause of death is still under investigation by the Houston Police Department, District Attorney’s office.

Adrian Medearis , I want to thank God for allowing you to direct the youth choir at God Grace Community Church the last months of your life. Everybody looked forward to your praise and worship and youth choir selections on the second Sundays. You gave the kids confidence. They opened their mouths. RIP my co-laborer, friend, great musician, advisor , gym partner and so many other things.

Adrian Medearis messaged me about planning his funeral. This was just Tuesday…. I’m completely lost for words…..

He and Alvaneeta C. Nelson gone in the same day. Boy, boy, boy, smh. Lord only you know!
