Gwen Marston quilter dead: How Gwen Marston death happened

Gwen Marston died after battling an aggressive cancer. Before he death, she was a professional fiber artist, author, and teacher. Gwen taught nationally and internationally for over three decades. She lived in Beaver Island, Michigan.

Gwen Marston death was announced by the Northwest Suburban Quilters Guild who wrote in a Facebook post:

“Today, the quilting pages of Facebook are filled with remembrances of Gwen Marston, who touched the lives and influenced the work of so many quilters.

She passed away yesterday on her beloved Beaver Island (Michigan), as a result of an aggressive cancer.

Gwen last taught and lectured at NSQG in 2008, and those who met her are fortunate for having known her. May she rest in peace.”

More tributes in loving memory of Gwen:

  • From BlueNickelStudio:

Mourning the loss of my friend #gwenmarston – we only met in person 2 or 3 times out on the west coast and I never made it to #beaverisland to visit her In her studio (which by photos and descriptions I have envisioned as idyllic) – I found out she was sick last year when I emailed her after the feature on her in #Quiltfolk when they covered Michigan.

We have had a few emails since then – and last month was the last – I knew things weren’t good – but still you always hope things will get better right?

So much inspiration in her work helps bring some comfort to the many tears of today.

  • From Karenbduling:

My dear Gwen Marston died yesterday at her home on Beaver Island. She was very special to me and to countless others.

This photo (above) was taken five years ago as she was giving me a tour of her quilts and studio. I believe she would smile at this photo of her in her red bathrobe. She changed my quilt making and my life. May she live on in our work. ❤️

May her soul rest in perfect peace.
