POS operators to introduce new service charge Monday

The Association of Mobile Money and Bank Agents in Nigeria has maintained its position that point-of-sale operators will implement the newly reviewed service charges on Monday, July 17.

National publicity secretary of the association, Elegbede Segun said current economic conditions have not prompted the agents to reconsider their plans.

In June, AMMBAN PRO Lagos Chapter, Stephen Adeoye, said the association had come up with a new price list for PoS agents operating in the state, adding that it also intends to extend the implementation of the new price range to the Federal Capital Territory and other states.

This generated controversy that led to threats of sanctions by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission and the Central Bank of Nigeria.

But speaking in an interview on Friday, Segun said the threats were only on the pages of newspapers, adding that the association was well prepared to commence implementation.

“The reactions you have seen are just on the pages of newspapers, as far as the central bank and FCCPC is concerned,” he said.
