The announcement read:
Friends and family. It is with heavy heart that I must inform you that my beloved Missy Shorey passed unexpectedly last night to be with the Angels in Heaven.
Words can not express how much she meant to me and so many of you.
There will be two memorial services. One in Burnt Hills, NY on Wednesday May 1st and another in Dallas at a date TBD. More details to follow.
Missy Shorey was the first woman elected to lead the Dallas County Republican Party. Shorey, who lived in Lake Highlands, was elected chairwoman of the county GOP in November 2017.
Officials in Washington, D.C., and Texas mourned Shorey’s death.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott wrote in a Facebook post that Shorey was a “courageous leader in our party and an inspiration to many.”
Congressman Lance Gooden of Terrell called Shorey a “tireless fighter for Dallas County and the Republican Party.” in a statement that read:
“She was a prominent and distinguished voice for activists, voters and the citizens of Dallas County. Her loss will be felt by all.”
Shorey replaced businessman Phillip Huffines, who was elected chairman in August 2016, after tea party activist Mark Montgomery stepped down earlier that month, leaving $180 in the party’s bank account.
She founded and served as CEO of Shorey Public Relations. She also served as the executive director of Maggie’s List, a federal political action committee that aims to get conservative women in Congress.
