Bradley Hayden Boivin, born Mar 9, 1977 passed away from complications from cancer.
CBS Sports made a special tribute to Brad Boivin during today’s MSU v. UM game and his widow, Nettie shared this beautiful post on her Facebook page:

“Late this past year, both the CBS and Michigan State families lost a dear member with the passing of Brad Boivin.
Brad was a proud ‘Sparty’, having met his wife Nettie here on campus when they were freshmen. They married in 2002 and were blessed with three beautiful children: Julian, Mirabelle and Bastian.
In his two-decade career in Sales for CBS Sports, Brad personified the balance we all strive for in life: tough and kind, professional and compassionate, determined and positive. He was a cherished colleague and friend to many. May he rest in peace.”
So touching for obvious reasons. Brad loved his 19-year career with CBS Sports and all the amazing experiences that came with it.
But what was also so special is that Brad’s colleagues who arranged the tribute specifically wanted a picture of Brad and Julian in State gear. This was an exceptional day in 2011 when Julian was just home from radiation treatment at St. Jude for his brain tumor.
Friends had arranged for Brad and Julian to have lower bowl seats to the basketball game with a Meet & Greet with Coach Tom Izzo after. I took this picture right before they left for East Lansing that day.
You all know Brad and I bleed Green and White. 💚💚 We have since we met at Snyder-Phillips dorm our freshman year. But we’ve grown to love our Blue and Maize rivals too. We love and respect Michigan Medicine for treating Julian’s brain cancer with great care in 2011.
For all they’ve done to research better treatments and outcomes for DIPG with Julian Boivin Courage for Cures Foundation and our amazing partners The ChadTough Foundation. Then, in an awful twist of fate, for treating Brad’s esophageal cancer with great care when he was diagnosed in 2018.

Bradley Hayden Boivin, born March 9, 1977, left this world on October 10, 2019.
Brad leaves behind his beloved wife, Nettie (Casarez) Boivin, daughter Mirabelle (10), and son Bastian (6). He was met at Heaven’s gate by his beautiful first born son, Julian.
Before his death, he was treasured son of Gene and Carol (Einhouse) Boivin, brother of Niki Boivin, and Peter Boivin (Alexa Stanard), nephews Gordon Kloostra and Nathan Binder, and baby niece Naomi. Cherished son-in-law of Julian and Anne (Fouts) Casarez, brother-in-law to Regina (Steve) Retan, Mara Casarez Weston, and nieces and nephews, Maya and Seth Retan, and Theo, and Annie Weston.
Affectionately known as Double B, Brad was the model for what a man should aspire to be. Kind, strong, steady, smart, funny, loyal, well-read, handsome, respectful, and true.
Brad had more friends than anyone might think reasonable. Throughout his years at Way Elementary, Bloomfield Hills Middle School, Lahser High School, Michigan State University, and a 20 year career in the advertising industry based in both Chicago and Detroit, he made friends easily and often.
Brad laughed deeply, told stories heartily, and never met a dance floor he didn’t like. He enjoyed running, playing hockey, cooking, and hosting friends. Raised on role-playing games and sci-fi movies by his older siblings, he enjoyed reading, writing, playing video games and exploring new music, shows and movies.
Always a sports fan, Brad loved the Detroit Red Wings and all things Michigan State, but most especially Tom Izzo’s Spartan basketball. A champion of the under dog, he could be found any given Sunday cheering on his favorite NFL team, the Cleveland Browns.
In his 19 years in sales for CBS Sports, Brad combined three of his passions: sports, relationships, and travel. He was constantly on the move, attending client meetings, Super Bowls, Final Fours, The Masters, concerts, golf tournaments, award shows, tech conferences, media events, and more. He took enormous pride in his work and career, his company, and the people and teams he worked with.
It was freshman year at Michigan State that Brad met Nettie, the love of his life. They quickly became the best of friends and from that friendship grew a very special and lasting love. They defined and drove and supported each other through good times and bad, and they had their fair share of both.
Brad and Nettie married on November 16, 2002, and together they built careers, a home, and a love of travel. He and his “sweet love” parented three shining children: Julian, Mirabelle and Bastian. And together, they survived the devastating loss of their beloved Julian in 2011 to a brain tumor when he was just five years old.
In the face of that kind of tragedy, most people falter. Brad and Nettie decided that instead they’d be inspired – grateful for the time they had with their sweet boy. They turned their unthinkable loss into action, and created a legacy for Julian in an effort to help other families by raising more than a million dollars for DIPG and pediatric cancer research.
Over the course of the past 18 months, Brad fought his own cancer battle with superhuman strength, determination, stamina and grace. On even the most difficult of days, he remained steadfast in his resolve that he shoulder the burden of this disease rather than see any child suffer. Brad was a warrior for all each and every day.
Brad loved without reserve, adored his children and his family completely, and made them his highest priority. Those who were lucky enough to know him and love him will never get over the enormous void he leaves here in our world.

Friends visited at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Roads), Thursday, October 17, 3-8pm. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Hugo of the Hills, 2215 Opkyke Road, Bloomfield Hills, Friday, October 18, 11am. Friends visited at church beginning at 10:30am.
