ASUU: Rema speaks on why he abandoned UNILAG admission

Popular Afrobeats singer, Divine Ikubor, also known as Rema, has revealed that he decided to forgo his admission at the University of Lagos because of the 8-month-long strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

He made this known during an interview on Kiss FM radio as he said that he moved on and informed his mother of his decision.

In January 2022, Rema announced via his Twitter account that he gained admission into UNILAG.

According to the ‘Holiday’ crooner his mother advised him to get a bachelor’s degree because it was important.

“What if I told y’all I got an admission into Unilag? Lol Mom said I still need to get a degree sigh, oh well see you guys in class!” he tweeted.

Speaking on why he never resumed classes at the higher institution, Rema said he wanted to do part time schooling and music but the strike ruined his plans.

He added that he finally chose to focus on music and his mother is comfortable with his decision despite her earlier position.
