The University of Houston Women’s Basketball program mourned the former student-athlete death in a tribute from Senior Associate AD/SWA DeJuena Chizer that read:
”Tye was not only one of the most decorated women basketball players to come through UH, she was also one of the most kind-hearted individuals you would ever meet.
She never met a stranger and would give you her last. Our thoughts and prayers are with Tonice, Trina and her family. Tye will always hold a special place in our hearts.”
A Houston native and standout for the Cougars, Jackson played for Houston from 2005-08. In three seasons, Jackson scored 1,197 points and became the 14th player in program history to surpass the 1,000-point mark.
Ranking among the top-10 in seven different categories, including scoring average, made three-point field goals, made free throw and assists, Jackson left Houston as one of the most decorated players in program history.
She holds the program record in single-game points after scoring a career-high 43 points against Marshall in 2007 and is one of two players to surpass the 40-point mark in a single game.
A graduate of Westfield High School, Jackson is a three-time All-Conference USA selection, two-time Naismith Trophy Watch List selection and Senior CLASS Award candidate.
