Napoli manager, Rudi Garcia has said the club’s intention with the controversial TikTok video involving Victor Osimhen was never to hurt him.
Garcia defended the club while addressing the issues surrounding its actions after the game, especially after the video offended Osimhen.
In the clip posted on Napoli’s TikTok account, the serie A club was making jest of him after he missed a penalty in the Partenopei’s 0-0 draw against Bologna last weekend.
The 24-year-old striker threatened to take legal action against the club. He also took down all images of him in the Partenopei jersey on his social media accounts.
Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda hinted that the Super Eagles star is considering legal action against his club.
“What happened on Napoli’s official profile on the TikTok platform is not acceptable. A video mocking Victor was first made public and then, but now belatedly, deleted.
“A serious fact that causes very serious damage to the player and adds to the treatment that the boy is suffering in the last period between media trials and fake news. We reserve the right to take legal action and any useful initiative to protect Victor,” Calenda said.
Osimhen ended a four-game goal drought by scoring in Napoli’s 4-1 victory against Udinese on Wednesday night.
Speaking on the controversy the clip generated after the game, Football Italia quoted Garcia saying; “Over the last two days there was a bit of trouble with some clumsy behaviour.
Nobody wanted to be hurtful, not the TikTok with the video of Victor, nor Victor by taking his photographs down on social media. Nobody intended to hurt anyone, these are instinctive reactions and are understandable.”
