Russell Brookes death, obituary: Beloved Russell Brookes, double British Rally champion famous for driving his ‘Andrews Heat for Hire’ liveried cars has died.
He was 74 years old.
British Rally Championship shared a tribute to honour Russell in a tweet that read:
We are sad to hear of the passing of Russell Brookes.
Brookes won the series in 1977 and 1985 and was an avid ambassador for the BRC and the whole of British rallying. A true legend.
Our thoughts got out to his family and friends. RIP Russell

At this time, Russell’s cause of death is not public. Please say a prayer for his grieving family.
Brookes will be sorely missed by his family and the thousands of loyal fans he leaves behind. He was synonymous with and one of the best drivers of arguably the greatest period in British rallying history.
Brookes began competing in the early ’60s before signing the pioneering deal with Andrews-Sykes in 1974 that meant the company’s profits grew and Brookes’ profile skyrocketed.

RIP Russell Brookes a great ambassador for British Rallying. The battles between Russell and Jimmy McRae were legendary and got me interested in Rallying from being a youngster.
