Man charged to court for allegedly defrauding pastor in Lagos

A 42-year-old man, Chukwuemeka Nwachukwu has been arraigned before an Ojo Magistrate Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing one million naira from a pastor.

The defendant was charged on two counts of obtaining money by fraud and stealing. Nwachukwu, however, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Esther Adesulu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on November 8, 2022, in the Ilogbo area of Ojo, Lagos State.

Adesulu alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of one million naira from Pastor Oliver Ogbuagu under false pretence to help the pastor purchase a Volkswagen T4 bus.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant never purchased the bus but instead converted the money for his personal use.

She said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Magistrate D.S. Odukoya granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum before she adjourned the case until October 10 for trial.

Meanwhile, CorrectNG reported earlier that a Magistrate Court in Akure jailed the Ajagun Ode of Ode in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, Oba Sunday Boboye.

He was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the illegal destruction of food crops and palm trees belonging to an Apostolic church in his community.

Magistrate Bukola Ojo found the traditional ruler guilty of the six counts of felony with malicious damage, the defendant was sentenced by Magistrate Bukola Ojo.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Ajiboye Babatunde told the court that the Boboye committed the offense on Sept. 20, 2022, at around 3 p.m.

The Pastorate and Laity of the church’s perimeter fence, worth about N1 million, as well as palm trees and food crops, worth about N5 million, were said to have been illegally destroyed by the defendant.
