EFCC raids Forex black markets In Abuja
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC,) on Tuesday, raided some black market forex offices in Abuja.
According to a report by PREMIUM TIMES, the anti-graft officials stormed the Sheraton Hotel area of Abuja, arresting bureaux de change (BDC) operators.
The areas raided included Zone 4 and Zone 3 of the FCT, where numerous currency dealers thrive in large numbers and sell local and foreign currencies openly.
Two white buses were reportedly parked in front of the Musawa House, along Constantine Street of Wuse, Zone 4.
Other EFCC officials stood at an intersection between Sheraton Hotel and Constantine Street, adjacent to Abacha Estate in Wuse, causing gridlock for oncoming vehicles.
An official of the anti-graft agency confirmed that the agency raided many bureaux de Change and arrested unspecified persons.
“We took them away in order to get to the root cause of the current Dollar scarcity and continuous Naira slide,” the official said.
” We are investigating them so as to give accurate information on the matter after our findings and then be able to apply appropriate punishment to those involved”, the officer added.
