Parkrose superintendent Michael Lopes-Serrao said two students informed a staff member about Angel’s concerning behavior.
Angel was inside the school, had entered a classroom, tried to cock his gun when the school’s football coach, former University of Oregon football player Keanon Lowe, tackled him and wrestled him to the ground.
In the panic that followed, students all ran out of the classroom. Some students said they hid in closets, theater makeup rooms, or ran away from school.
Police officers were called and they responded to the school at 11:48 a.m. Friday. No one was injured.
Officers recovered the gun at the scene. It’s not yet clear if any shots were fired.
