Why we won’t torture Seun Kuti – Lagos Police PRO
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, has said the command will not deploy the use of torture on Afrobeats singer, Seun Kuti, who is in detention.
Seun turned himself in to the Lagos state police following his assault of an officer which was captured in a viral video.
Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement via Twitter, said Seun was placed under arrest after he arrived at the headquarters in Ikeja.
He said; “Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, in the early hours of today turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, in company of his lawyer and family representative. He has been placed under arrest in line with the law.
The Command appreciates the public for their concern and assures that the ongoing investigation will be detailed, transparent, professionally pursued; and justice will be manifestly served for all parties involved.”
However, he clarified via the microblogging platform that the police is smart enough not to subject the singer to torture because it could undermine the case.
Hundeyin revealed that Seun has not been harmed and will not be touched for as along as he remains in police custody.
He said; “Contrary to some people’s emotion-laden expectations, we are smart enough not to torture him.
We will not undermine our case. Not a finger has been laid on him nor will be laid on him. Like we assured, full and transparent investigation.”
