River Oaks mall shooting: Victim’s aunt pleads for prayers
River Oaks mall shooting: An aunt to one of the victims shot during the shooting at River Oaks mall has pleaded for prayers saying her niece is unresponsive.
The drive-by shooting occurred in the parking lot near the entrance of Macy’s at the River Oaks Center Mall in south suburban Calumet City on Thursday, October 10, 2019.
According to the police, a 17-year-old male and an 18-year-old female were seriously injured in the shooting.

Calumet City Chief of Police Christopher Fletcher said the mall shooting did not appear to be a random act of violence, and said there is no immediate threat to public safety.
Police officers had responded around 6 p.m. to reports of shots fired.
Upon arrival, they found a 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old woman seriously wounded. The victims were transported to the hospital.

At first while the shooting was on, workers and shoppers said they thought the shooter was inside the mall.
An investigation into the shooting is ongoing. No one is currently in custody.
A statement released by the mall reads:
There was an isolated incident at River Oaks Center today. We want the public to know that River Oaks Center holds the safety of our customers, tenants, and employees paramount.
We are cooperating with the Calumet City Police Department to address this incident. The Calumet City Police Department is undertaking an active investigation into this incident.
The Mall will be open regular hours tomorrow.
