New Naira Notes: Protest rocks Abeokuta

A protest has broken out in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on Tuesday over the inability of residents to withdraw cash at the various banks and ATM points in the city.

Aladesanmi, Fajol and Somorin in Obantoko area of Abeokuta were taken over by the protesters, making bonfires and chanting anti – CBN songs

According to reports, the Sapon branch of First Bank was also vandalised as the protesters attempted to set it ablaze.

Ogun Police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi in response to the incident revealed that officers are monitoring the situation to prevent the destruction of property and loss of lives.
