Lagos State Police Command has found a baby declared missing in the Somolu area of the state since February 3.
The couple’s child was taken away on February 3 by their housemaid named Ruth around 1 am on February 3.
Ruth was subsequently found in Ikorodu around 1 pm on February 3 but the baby was not with her. It was learnt that she claimed she left the baby at home.
However, after further interrogations by the police, Ruth reportedly said she sold the baby for N800,000.
In a post on X on Monday, spokesman of the Lagos Police Command Benjamin Hundeyin said the baby was found at Alade Market, Shomolu.
Hundeyin said the police are making efforts to arrest the buyer who is at large.
“Due to intense manhunt and pressure from the police, the buyer in the early hours of today abandoned the baby in Alade Market, Shomolu. Baby was promptly rescued by the police,” he wrote.
“The baby has since been handed over to her parents after they positively identified her. Efforts are still on to apprehend the buyer who is currently on the run.”
