Man destroys his wife’s certificates during domestic quarrel
A Kenyan man, Francis Chege Wanjiru, has appeared before a Kibera Law Courts on charges of malicious damage to property after he allegedly destroyed his wife’s academic credentials.
During his arraignment on June 24, the prosecutor said Wanjiru willfully and unlawfully damaged his wife, Esther Wangechi Mwai’s KCSE and Diploma certificates, both issued by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
The accused committed the offence on June 22, 2022, during an argument at their home in Waithaka along Kikuyu road in Dagoretti Sub County, Nairobi, Kenya.
He was arrested after Mrs Mwai reported the matter at the Waithaka police station.
According to the wife, Wanjiru had just returned home at night when an argument ensued between the two of them.
Angered by what happened, he is said to have taken the documents, which were inside a big envelope, and tore them to pieces after which he stormed out of the house.
The accused, however, denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate, Derrick Kutto.
He was released on a surety bond of Sh50,000 (N176,000) with an alternative cash bail of Sh10,000 (N35,000).
