John Wayne “Johnny” Messer, age 71, of Leoma, TN passed away Friday, April 19, 2019, at Saint Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, TN.
He was a native of Lawrence County, TN, owner of Messer’s Body Shop, and attended First Baptist Church of Loretto, TN.
He was also the lead singer of The Johnny Messer Band and several other bands throughout the years.
John Wayne death:
He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Audrey Huskey Willis; one son, Jeffrey Shayne Messer, and grandson, Jonathan Clint Messer.
He is survived by:
- wife, Carol Springer Messer of Leoma, TN;
- two sons, John Wayne Messer, Jr. of Leoma, TN and Anthony Joe Messer of Lawrenceburg, TN;
- seven grandchildren, Anthony Eric Messer, Joshua Ty Messer, Josie Katlin Messer, Johnny Mac Messer, Jake Austin Messer, Shane Brown, and Chad Brown;
- one great-grandchild, Bentley Shayne Messer;
- five step-great-grandchildren, Lucy Brown, Jax Brown, Ella Hillhouse, Lily Brown, and William Brown;
- and two brothers, Jim Messer (Barbara) of New Prospect, TN and Jerry Willis (Bettie) of Leoma, TN.
JohnWayne funeral:
Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at Neal Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 24, 2019, with T. R. Williams and Kevin Cheatham officiating.
Interment will follow at Restview Cemetery in Loretto, TN. The family suggests memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
