Ian Cognito death video: How stand up comedian died on stage
Stand up comic Ian Cognito sadly died after ‘having a heart attack’ on stage, 10 minutes after joking and asking his audience members – “Imagine if I died in front of you lot here”.
And then he did.
While on stage at the Lone Wolf Comedy Club in The Atic bar in Bicester (Oxfordshire UK), according to one audience member, Cognito had joked about having a stroke.
John Ostojak said:
“Only 10 minutes before he sat down he joked about having a stroke.”
“He said, ‘Imagine having a stroke and waking up speaking Welsh’.”
Then the comedian “sat on a chair and laid back for five minutes” with his audience members continuing to laugh thinking his silence was part of the show.
Mr Ostojak said that when the funnyman sat down at the end of his set, they thought it was “part of the act.”
“We came out feeling really sick, we just sat there for five minutes watching him, laughing at him,” he added.
It was only when the compere approached the stage and realised he wasn’t breathing, an ambulance was called.
Paramedics were called at 10.20pm on Thursday night but the star was pronounced dead at the scene.
Reports say he had been taking medication for a heart condition.
Responding to Ian Cognito death, Lone Wolf Comedy Club said in a statement:
Thanks to everyone for all your messages. We feel proud and privileged that Ian Cognito’s last gig was with us. Let’s not forget he was SMASHING IT.
We all thought he was messing about. The Paramedics said that even those few minutes wouldn’t have made any difference.
Thanks to all the first aiders who were helping Ian. You did all you could.
All our condolences and thought are with his family at this difficult time.
A statement from the ambulance service read:
“We were called at 22:11 last night to Crown Walk in Bicester to a medical emergency.
“We sent a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance crew but sadly one patient passed away at the scene.”
Thames Valley Police said no further investigation had been required.
May his soul rest in perfect peace.
