Cubana Chief Priest arrested, whisked away from Lagos airport
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has nabbed Nigerian socialite, Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, over money laundering and tax fraud charges.
A source close to the commission disclosed that the celebrity barman was arrested at the Lagos airport on Thursday.
Peoples Gazette reports that it is not immediately clear when the socialite would be granted bail or the level of intelligence EFFC officials were able to squeeze out of him as of Saturday night.
However, there are growing concerns and pressure from his associates and family, who said the matter could complicate conditions for others likely connected to the alleged racket.
His arrest has made it impossible for him to return birthday greetings from his nearly 3.9 million Instagram followers.
Cubana Chief Priest’s last Instagram post was a video clip of him caught on national television with other frustrated fans in the MKO Abiola stadium where the Super Eagles lost on Tuesday.
Report said that only his wife was permitted to see him in custody.
“The matter is still under investigation,” a source said anonymously.
His arrest came weeks after another socialite Obi Cubana was arrested by the anti-narcotics agency NDLEA.
