Zaccardi Abington: Deirdre, Joseph Zaccardi family Abington were killed in a fatal shooting at their 135 centre ave abington MA home on Monday, October 7, 2019.
According to the Plymouth County district attorney’s office, police were called to 135 Center Ave. at about 7:30 a.m. for a medical emergency.
Upon arrival, they found a 40-year-old woman, 43-year-old man and their three children – an 11-year-old daughter and 9-year-old twins, a boy and a girl dead inside the condominium complex where they lived.
The Abington Public Schools superintendent said in a note to parents that the deceased were members of the Zaccardi family, and that the children were enrolled in the school district.
Peter Schafer, the district superintendent, said in a statement:
“We are heartbroken to share with you that the Zaccardi Family, an Abington family, died unexpectedly last night.
There are three young students of this family in our district. At this time, we do not have any other details about what happened. This was an unexpected event, which deeply saddens all of us. This is a tragedy that will affect the entire Abington community.”
Town assessing records show that Joseph Zaccardi and Deirdre Zaccardi purchased the Centre Street condo 135 centre ave abington MA home in 2008.
Authorities said the incident appears to be isolated, and there is no current threat to public safety. An investigation is open and active.

District Attorney Tim Cruz said the call came from a relative who was at the home to pick the children up for school and found one of the adults bleeding on a couch in the downstairs area.
Investigators are unsure of the timing of their deaths at this point, he added.
District Attorney Tim Cruz said:
“This is a horrible, horrible event for the town of Abington and for the children in the schools that reside here.
Three little children are gone forever as a result of this.”
Cruz and Abington Police Chief David Majenski said authorities were not aware of any ongoing domestic issues at the home and police had never been called to the condo for any reason.
The school district said it would also have counselors on hand to offer support to students and other members of the school community
On Monday afternoon, the DA’s office released a statement from family members of the victims in the shooting. The statement read:
“Today our family has suffered an unfathomable loss.
As we attempt to make sense of the enormity of this event, we respectfully ask that the media respect our family’s wishes to be left alone as we grieve our tremendous losses in private.”
