Xenophobia: One shot dead by police as protesters shut down Shoprite

The protest against Xenophobia attack at Shoprite, Lekki has reported a casualty as an unknown person was shot dead at the premises.


Witnesses told the reporters that a Nigerian man was shot dead at the Shoprite by Jakande Bus-Stop in the beautiful Lekki neighbourhood.

The name and other details of the victim was not immediately clear as of 5:30 p.m. Nigerians have assembled outside Shoprite, a major South African retailer, to protest the xenophobic violence against Nigerians across South Africa.’

Nigerians have shown outrage about the attacks, pleading to President Muhammadu Buhari to act on the issue.

The president has already sent an envoy to South Africa on Tuesday for an on-the-ground assessment of the situation.

The police confirmed that violence broke out at the Shoprite location in Lekki, but said it was being contained on time.
