A lady identified as Mrs Chidinma Ismailia, reportedly welcomed a baby girl at Delta IDP Camp for people affected by the recent flood.
The lady was delivered of the baby girl by a medical team led by the chairman of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Isioma Okobah, in the early hours of Friday, at the Delta IDP camp located at Ogbe-Afor Primary School in Asaba.
Punch reported that Chidinma who is one of the over 700 homeless and displaced persons currently taking refuge at the camp after flood submerged their homes at Powerline axis of the state capital, is in good condition with her baby.
A member of the flood quick response team of Delta State Emergency Management, Dr Okobah who confirmed the delivery report, said;
“Today (Friday) a baby girl was put to bed by Mrs. Chidinma Ismailia at the Holding Camp Asaba Delta State. The mother of the newborn while appreciating God for safe delivery also commended my boss the Delta state governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.”
We reported before now, a heavy rainfall, which resulted into flood in Asaba and its environs on Wednesday night, swept six tricycles into the River Niger According to Daily Posts, the flood also sacked residents of Ifant Jesus, Phase 11, and DLA road in Asaba.
Although, no death was reported, it was learnt that the entire Ifant Jesus, Phase 11, and DLA residents were thrown into disarray as their houses and properties were taken over by the flood. Thieves, in spite of the heavy down pour, defied the situation to take advantage of the affected residents’ predicament and robbed them at gun point.
Mrs Patricia Mokego, one of the victims at Infant Jesus road, said:
“The flood took over my property, destroyed my things, everything I have in my house was destroyed, and I have no place to be sleeping for now, the flood was too much, I am appealing to the state government to come to my aid.”
