Two brothers identified as Akaninyene and Ime Enyeokpon, have been arrested by operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, for reportedly conspiring to kill their brother Friday Enyeokpon, over witchcraft allegation.
The suspects reportedly waylaid their brother who had gone to check his traps in the bush, and killed him with a machete. After allegedly killing their brother, they beheaded him, buried his head in the sand and abandoned his torso in the bush.
Parading the suspects before newsmen, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, confirmed that the suspects confessed to committing the crime, although they maintained that their brother used his witchcraft to alter their destinies and make them poor.
“The deceased, one Friday Enyeokpon ‘M’ of Ikot Abasi Asutan Village in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, left his house and went to the bush to check his traps and while still in the bush, the suspects, one Akaninyene Enyeokpon ‘M’, and Ime Enyeokpon ‘M,’ both of same address, emerged from their hideouts, unlawfully killed the deceased, beheaded the deceased, buried the deceased’s head and abandoned the lifeless body in the bush.
“During interrogations, the suspects confessed to the crime, noting that the deceased bewitched them with witchcraft and caused their misfortunes in life.
“The deceased’s head was exhumed and deposited in the mortuary and two machetes used by the suspects in the murder of the deceased were recovered,” Ogunjemilusi told a Punch correspondent.
The suspect will reportedly be charged to court after investigations have been concluded.
Few months ago, it was reported that youths in Eyobisung Village in Udung Uko Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, allegedly killed five persons who were accused of witchcraft.The youths whose number could not be ascertained, were said to have gone to each of the victims’ house, killing them before fleeing the community.
