Yesterday, Nigerian soldiers opened fire on members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria popularly known as Shiites, who embarked on a symbolic annual Arbaeen annual trek at Zuba, Abuja.
The Shiites members who were having a religious protest which began from the Suleja area of Niger State, clashed with the soldiers around Zuba Highway, and were only throwing stones at the soldiers. However they got shot at by the soldiers, and it was gathered that over six Shiite members were killed and many others injured in the clash between the sect and military men.

However it should be noted that the Nigerian army who claimed that it was not aware of any clash by its personnel with members of Islamic Movement of Nigeria, otherwise known as Shiites in Zuba, Abuja, yesterday, backtracked on their statement and further claimed that the Shiites attacked a convoy escorting ammunition and missiles from Abuja to its Central Ammunition Depot in Kaduna.
Commander Army Headquarters Garrison, Major General James Myam said the Shiites not only established an illegal road block on the road, they attempted to cart away the ammunitions and smashed both military and civilian vehicles windscreens.
