Twitter will reportedly hand control of the US president’s official account to Joe Biden on Inauguration Day, even if Donald Trump has left the White House or not.
President Donald Trump has refused to concede defeat in the US president election, alleging high-level voter fraud after Biden was announced as the winner.
However, the POTUS Twitter account which is run by the US presidential administration will be handed over to Joe Biden on January 20.
‘Twitter is actively preparing to support the transition of White House institutional Twitter accounts on January 20th, 2021,’ Twitter spokesperson Nick Pacilio told Politico.
The same goes for @whitehouse, @VP, @FLOTUS, and a handful of other official accounts associated with the presidency, the report said.
Trump has tweeted over 10,900 times since taking over the POTUS account in January 2017, but all his tweets will be archived and hand over to Biden with zero tweet on January 20.
According to The Hill, Twitter also confirmed that there will be a meeting with representatives from the Biden-Harris transition team in the coming months to review how the new administration plans to use its government-related accounts.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump real account has 88.9million followers, while POTUS has 32.8million followers.
