Get paid to test websites/apps jobs: How to make money as a tester in 2022

  • What does a user tester do?

Some people believe that you must be a computer whiz, genius if you want to get paid to test websites and apps. This is not true at all.

If you want to get paid to test websites and apps, what this job is all about is that you’ll be helping with making sure the functionality, usability, and design of a website or app is less buggy.

You will be testing websites and app, using the site and app the same way normal people would in order to make sure the user experience is a good one, the website/app is more functional, better looking while you are making money at the same time!

Bug testers are required for more complex user testing jobs. As a bug tester, your job entails testing a website or app to discover if there are any bugs or functions that aren’t working. Your primary responsibility is to seek for critical technical concerns. When you spot any issues, you report that issue to the developer and you are rewarded for doing so.

While this may appear to be a simple task, many problems are really rather tough to locate. However, it all takes a lot of practice.

  • What do you need to land a tester job and start testing?

What a company hiring for user testers require to see in their suitable candidates actually depends on what that company is seeking for. But let me share with you more general requirements most companies ask for.

As a tester, most of the time you will be required to record your screen and voice so that you can voice your opinions and give feedback as you go on the job.

Well, for you to achieve this, you will need a  desktop computer or laptop, microphone, webcam and high-speed internet connection. Most test companies will require you to be able to speak and write in English.

Even though you may not need much expertise skills as a tester to test a website or app, most companies hiring for this role will require you to complete a simple qualification test. These companies use this test to make sure your gadgets are working well – that your microphone is audible enough and they want to see how well you can express your thoughts while giving feedback.

  • How much money can you make as a tester?

Some test jobs can pay between $10 and $20 and take less than 30 minutes to complete. If you do the math, that means possibly about $20-$40 per hour which sounds very good.

Companies currently hiring for remote testing jobs

Essentially, the way tester jobs work is that – companies and startups all over the world, from major corporations to smaller companies, are looking to make sure that either their websites or their apps are working the way that they’re supposed to.

So, they hire companies such as these ones listed below to deploy beta testers, which are really just
everyday people like me and possibly you, to test websites and make sure that things are running smoothly.

What will happen is, for example, you may be tasked to do a shopping. Maybe shop for a piece of fruit or food online or book a concert ticket or maybe check your bank account or apply for a credit card, or test out a particular type of phone app to make sure that whatever that assigned task that you’re trying to do is working as it should.  Each task, on average may take you about 15 minutes to do, sometimes as low as two minutes and sometimes as high as about 20 minutes or more. And for each of these tests, you get paid.

For some of the companies hiring for these roles, you are an independent contractor so you have to make sure that you are taking your own taxes out.

Secondly, on some of these companies’ websites, there aren’t any kind of set hours for work. What I mean is – when these companies hire you and you log on to your account, whatever jobs/tests you see presented are what are available at that time and it keeps fluctuating throughout the day. You can log on to your dashboard and there are literally no tests to be done but that could literally change in the next minute and you’ll see lots of job tests available.
