A suspect, Abdullahi Sheidu who allegedly trades in marijuana, has blamed his involvement in the business on the lack of job in the country and that the current hard times in Kogi State led him into hard drugs for survival.
Sheidu who was arrested by the Kogi State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency told newsmen on Thursday that, he has been into the illegal business for several months.
The suspect who is a native of Okehi Local Government Area of the State was caught selling Cannabis Sativa weighing 1.4kg and Tramadol 50g to workers of a Chinese company located along Okene Lokoja Abuja road before Kabba junction, Lokoja.
The 40-year-old suspect with a wife and two kids said he found it difficult to feed his family, hence the option of selling hard drugs.
He, however, maintained that the authority of the Chinese company was not aware of his illegal business.
According to him:
“I have been in this business for over four months. Hardship led me into this. There is no job anywhere, so I discovered that some workers in this Chinese company like taking Indian herm and tramadol. l so I decided to go into the business. From this business, I usually gather little money on daily basis to feed my family.”
Similarly, the Kogi State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has paraded the duo of Okoye Daniel, and Maxwell Egbo alongside four others; Mohammed Sanni Danlami, Mona Mathew, Ejima Sunday and Gambo Adamu for alleged involvement in trafficking psychotropic substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, Codeine and Rophynol.

He said others were arrested in some flashpoints within Lokoja metropolis.
While sounding a noted of warning that the command will go all out to arrest drug peddlers within the State, he urged residents to always provide useful information to the command that will help towards achieving a drug-free society.
According to him, when illegal use of drugs is curtailed in the society, crime will be reduced.
However, Alhaji Bello said all the suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
