In a dramatic turn of events, PDP’s Diri Duoye is set to be sworn in as the Governor of Bayelsa state, after the supreme court nullified the election of David Lyon.
Barely 24 hours to his inauguration Mr David Lyon and his running mate, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo have seen their election nullified by the supreme court.
A five man panel of the apex court presided by Justice Mary Peter-Odili nullified the election of Lyon on the grounds that his deputy, Senator biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo presented false information to INEC in aid of his qualification for the November 16 governorship election in Bayelsa State.
The apex court ordered INEC to issue fresh certificates to the candidates of the party with the next highest votes and with the required constitutional spread of votes in the results of the election, which are the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidates.
The court ruled Degi-Eremienyo’s disqualification had infected the joint ticket with which he and the governorship candidate, Lyon, ran for and won the November 16, 2019 election.
With the judgment of the apex court, candidate of the PDP, Diri Duoye will now be inuagurated as governor of Bayelsa State.
