The marriage between one Sunday Akintayo and his wife, Odunayo, has been dissolved at the Oja-Oba, Ibadan customary court over irreconcilable marital challenges.
According to the wife Odunayo who had begged the court to dissolve her marriage, her husband was a drunkard who, many times heavily intoxicated, would return home naked.
She said whenever she refused to feed Akintayo, he would break her shop and steal money and other valuable things from it.
She further told the court that since she left her husband’s home, he had been threatening and cursing her through text messages.
“I was enduring his cruelty to me until my parents advised me to leave him and watch whether he would change. He is a wicked man. He is a heavy drinker. He stole my panties and cut my hair. I don’t want him again, please separate us.”
Reacting to her story, the president of the court, Chief Ademola Odunade, said the crisis in the marriage could endanger the life of any of the couple if proactive steps were not taken.
“In the interest of peaceful living, the union between Odunayo and Sunday Akintayo has ceased to be. The custody of the two children produced by the union is awarded to Odunayo,” Chief Odunade said.
Akintayo was not in the court to defend himself. So Chief Ademola Odunade ordered the bailiff in the court to serve him with the court’s judgment.
How do you think Mr. Sunday Akintayo would react to the judgement?
