Tampa Bay Buccaneers owner and co-chairman Bryan Glazer confirmed Steve Duemig death in a statement that read:

“We are saddened to hear of the passing of Steve Duemig earlier today.

Steve was an iconic figure in the Tampa Bay sports-radio landscape who earned the very appropriate nickname as the ‘Big Dog’ because he was a very influential voice on the airwaves when it came to sports in our area.

His genuine love of sports, as well as his passion for the Tampa Bay community, were always on full display over his nearly three decades on the radio in our market.

We send our deepest condolences to his wife Jennifer and the entire Duemig family.”

Steve Duemig death:

Steve “Big Dog” Duemig was a longtime sports radio personality. He worked with WFNS from 1991 to 1996 before working with WDAE from 1996 to February 2018.

Steve Duemig was also the hockey analyst for the Tampa Bay Lighting for two seasons. During his long career, Duemig co-hosted a program on The Golf Channel. That show capitalized on his 13 years as a pro golfer. He also hosted a weekly call-in program on Fox Sports Radio.

WDAE shared a tribute to Steve on its website that read:

“WDAE and IHeartMedia Tampa Bay would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to the friends and family of ‘The Big Dog’ Steve Duemig.”

Fox 13’s Charley Belcher wrote:

It is with great sadness that I share with you that Steve Duemig has passed away. Steve was known as the ‘Big Dog’, and spent many years talking sports on the radio in Tampa. And he was a friend. The family has asked me to share this with Steve’s fans:

“Our beloved Steve Duemig, ‘The Bigdog’, went to heaven peacefully today. Our family thanks you all for all of your prayers, love & support. Service details will be forthcoming.”
