Nigerian activist, Omoyele Sowore has been charged by The Department of State Services, DSS for treasonable felony, cybers-talking President Muhammadu Buhari among other offences.

Sowore was arrested on August 3, 2019 in Lagos for planning a series of revolution protests. Another activist, Olawale Mandate, arrested in Osun, has also been charged by the DSS.

According to the charge, Mr Sowore was accused of involvement in acts of treason and alleged attempt to fraudulently transfer over $16, 000. He was accused by Nigerian government of trying to cause chaos and overthrow the government.

In August, The Department of State Services had said that the human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress in the February 2019 election, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, was arrested “for threatening public safety, peaceful co-existence and social harmony in the country.”

The agency called on Nigerians to disregard “threat of revolution” issued by Sowore.

The security agency also confirmed that Sowore, who was to lead a group known as ‘Revolution Now’ on a protest was in the its custody.
