Few months ago, a former US Army infantry soldier named Joshua Dickey had a divorce cake made, to celebrate his split from his wife. The left side of the cake said “problem” with a man and woman holding hands. The right side said “solved,” and the woman was falling out of the picture. He brought the cake to the couple’s divorce court appearance.
Josh and his ex-wife, Kayla, were married for just about three years before deciding to go their separate ways.
“I wanted to get a cake, so I started looking up some stuff and found that one online,” Josh explained to WPIX. “My mom, she said, she wanted to pay for it.”
His original Facebook post received hundreds of shares, and while he never showed his ex-wife the actual cake, Joshua showed her a photo and she laughed. “She didn’t see the cake in person,” Josh said. “I had it in the car, I didn’t want to bring it in there… I showed her a picture and she laughed about it. She’s taking it all with good faith.”
There was also a report of Nicole Niesner, who was married for 13 years when she and her husband decided to divorce.
“When I received a letter in the mail letting me know that I would be divorced as of December 16, 2017, it got me thinking, ‘How am I going to spend that day?’” Nicole told Love What Matters.
The 36-year-old Canadian woman decided that she wanted to surround herself with her closest friends and throw a “Divorce Party” to mark the occasion. A handful of friends planned the party and came to Nicole’s house dressed in wedding dresses.
