Theo Danjuma is the 32-year-old son of retired Lt. Gen. Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma, who according to Forbes is Africa’s 29th richest man, with an estimated fortune of $700 million.
Theo was born and educated in London, where he got into the world of visual and contemporary arts. Since purchasing Julie Mehretu’s work on paper in 2008, he has been collecting art fervently.
According to Artnet, Theo has bought over 400 works, some of which will be shown in the exhibition “One Man’s Trash (Is Another Man’s Treasure),” which opened at 33 Fitzroy Square in London on 6 October, and runs till 28 October. In the nearest future, Theo hopes to team up with graduates from local art schools in Nigeria and set up studios spaces to create.
He says, “some sort of a community where artists could exchange ideas about their work, and support each other. That’s definitely not happening [currently] in Lagos, and I think it would be very nice if it did.” He’s also presently building up his art collection, which will be shown in a private museum which was launched in 2016 at the Wheatbaker Hotel, Ikoyi, Lagos.
On the other hand, his brother Ishaya Danjuma, got married to Agbani Darego, 2001 Miss World. The beauty queen/ fashion entrepreneur shared the news on her Instagram page with the picture showing her in a wedding dress with her partner turning their backs to the camera at the wedding.
