SIGNAL announced that they would henceforth address President Muhammadu Buhari as “Dictator” as a show of protest for the consistent disregard for the rule of law and clampdown on freedom of expression in Nigeria.
The announcement was made by SIGNAL shortly after PUNCH stated that they would henceforth address the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari as “Major General” in protest. Nigerians have now taken to their social media pages to react to this decision by the two media houses.

Way to go! Kudos to @thesignalng & all patriotic publications who have chosen to stand with the Nigerian people in these trying times of our democratic odyssey. – @RealOlaudah
😂😂😂 This is more effective than Punch’s naming, punch should follow suit, don’t call him ‘major general’, call him ‘Dictator’, let’s be clear on what we’re dealing with. – @ollasupo
😂😂😂 Now you guys are talking – @Iam_ChisomLucky
He didn’t know he was declaring war against the fingers that fed him. – @Odeyemi_John
Here we go, finally we are making progress – @Tee_Classiquem1
This is good. It took the media long enough to respond to tyranny. Buhari must hear word. Dictator is much better than Major General. – @eodjugo1

Nigerians are waking up. – @ChichebemSP

We need a tactical approach to this level of impunity because forging ahead without a plan will not dig deep into D root of the problem. We should be able to shake the govt and make them feel our emotions, our cries even if we cant totally change it they should feel what we feel – @eralight_
We Nigerians have lost the will to stand up against oppression. Kudos to the few beams of light that still speak the truth despite the threat from the “Dictator” – @chrisezekiel71
