In a Sheboygan accident today, a child riding a bicycle was struck by a garbage truck and killed.

The accident happened this morning at North 14th Street and Center Avenue.

The child, a 9 year old male from Sheboygan, died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision and the family has been notified.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is conducting the traffic crash investigation.

At approximately 10:27 AM, the Sheboygan Police Department along with the Sheboygan Fire Department responded to an injury accident involving a City of Sheboygan Sanitation Vehicle (garbage truck) and a child on a bicycle.

The driver of the sanitation truck is a 35 year old male who has been with the City of Sheboygan approximately two years. An additional city employee, a 55 year old male who has been with the City of Sheboygan approximately twenty one years, was conducting garbage collection at the rear of the vehicle.

The SPolice Department said in a statement:

While the crash investigation continues, this tragic accident affects the whole community and the City of Sheboygan offers condolences to the family of the young boy.

The Wisconsin State Patrol has been contacted to conduct the investigation. The investigation is ongoing.
