English Boxer Scott Fitzgerald may have upset the odds to secure the biggest win of his professional career on Saturday, but victory came at a cost.
The Preston fighter secured a 13th uninterrupted win when he outpointed bitter rival and former GB team-mate Anthony Fowler in a barnstorming Battle of Britain in Liverpool.
Fitzgerald secured a dramatic last-round knockdown to sway the fight in his favour on two of the judges’ scorecards and secure a happy ending to a rivalry built on bad blood in recent months.
But on Monday the unbeaten super-welterweight was left with some nasty battle scars.
In a series of pictures and videos shared on social media, the 27-year-old showed off two nasty black eyes suffered in the 10-round war.
Fitzgerald’s eyes were swollen to the point where they were nearly closed. Both were surrounded by large crimson bruises.
