Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has renamed the Onikan Stadium at Lagos Island after the first military administrator of the state, Mobolaji Johnson.
Speaking on Tuesday at the Day of Tribute for the late Johnson at the newly refurbished Onikan Stadium, Mr Sanwo-Olu said the stadium would now be known as Mobolaji Olufunso Johnson Stadium.
The Media aide to the governor,Jubril Gawat also shared the news via Twitter.
“ Governor @jidesanwoolu honours the Late Brig Gen Mobolaji Olufunso Johnson by naming the Onikan Stadium after him, It will now be known as Mobolaji Olufunso Johnson Stadium.”
While speaking at the renaming, Sanwo-Olu, said the late Johnson was a distinguished man, a great patriot and an accomplished administrator who re-engineered the modern Lagos.
The governor said that although Johnson was a soldier, he did not rule like one but with compassion.
Recall Mobolaji Johnson died on October 30 at age 83.
