In its bid to ease traffic congestion in Lagos state, the government has just reportedly demolished the popular roundabout constructed at the Maryland junction.

In December 2019, the Lagos state government announced the planned demolition of some roundabouts across the state to allow for free flow of traffic.

 

A statement posted on Twitter read:

Four roundabouts including Ikotun, 2nd roundabout on the Lekki-Epe Expressway, Allen Avenue roundabout and Maryland will be removed to pave the for road expansion and free flow of traffic.@jidesanwoolu #LASG #ForAGreaterLagos

Prior to this demolition, the popular Fela statue at Allen Roundabout, Ikeja was demolished in January, causing some uproar across social media.

Gboyega Akosile, a spokesman for the governor, however said the artwork will be relocated to an area where it won’t cause further obstruction to traffic.
