Police have fought with foreign nationals in Johannesburg CBD on 1 August after police vehicles were destroyed due to the protest.
JMPD Chief David Tembe said on Twitter that the foreign nationals attacked the police.
Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar, the Metro police spokesperson said the cause of the riot is unknown.
“Police vehicles were damaged by the angry protesters. No police officers were injured in the protest,” said Minnaar.
“At this point, we do not know the cause of the riot. No one was arrested. The police had to use rubber bullets to disperse the angry crowd.”
