A residential building collapse which occurred in Olushi Street, Lagos Island in the early hours of today, reportedly sparked pandemonium in the area.

According to online sources, no life was lost and the Rapid Response Officers and other emergency responders have already arrived to restore order at the scene of the incident. A statement from the Rapid Response Squad’s page reads;

RRS officers along other emergency responders are presently at the scene of a collapsed residential building on Olushi Street, Lagos Island.

No lives were lost.

Few months ago, it was reported that no fewer than two persons were confirmed dead and scores injured, after a storey building collapsed in Agege Local Government, Lagos State. The building located at 9, Abeje Street, Morikaz road, had been marked as being distressed by the State Government officials before it finally caved in.

Adesina Tiamiyu, General Manager of Lagos State Emergency Agency (LASEMA) said the building suffered a partial collapse.

“Investigation carried out by the LASEMA Response Team at the scene of incident revealed that a distress storey building suffered partial collapse at the backside.

“Two persons(female adult Toyin Ogundimu 35yrs and a young girl Sherifat Olalere 11yrs) lost their lives to the incident and one male adult (Mustapher Salaudeen) was rescued and treated at the incident by the ambulance crew”, he explained.

Mr. Tiamiyu said the LASEMA Response Team, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) from Dopemu and Agege division, Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) and the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) were responders at the scene.

He added that the Taskforce, LASG Fire Service (Agege division) and the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) were also responders at the scene. The general manager advised occupants of residential buildings in the state not to ignore wreckage and crack signs on buildings. He said occupants should call the emergency toll free line 112/767 to avoid any accident.
