A tribute from SouthEastern University reads:

We were saddened to learn yesterday of the sudden passing of Dr. Randy Valimont, senior pastor of Griffin First Assembly of God. He passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 31.

Dr. Valimont was an alumnus of Southeastern University who attended Southeastern from 1978 – 1981. He and his wife, Jelly Jordan Valimont, were married in May 1980 while attending school, and Randy graduated in 1981 with a B.A. in pastoral studies. They began their ministry following graduation in Georgia, where he served faithfully in ministry until his passing.

Dr. Valimont became senior pastor of Griffin First Assembly of God in 1993, which had an average attendance of 400 at the time. Griffin First has now grown to five campuses with an average Sunday attendance of 4,200, and nearly 10,000 who call Griffin First their church home.

In the late 1990s, Dr. Valimont began serving on the Southeastern Alumni Board and became alumni president shortly thereafter. He served in that role for more than 10 years until 2010. During his time as alumni president, Dr. Valimont was elected to serve as the first ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees. He served on the Board until his term as alumni president ended in 2010.

Dr. Valimont received his Ph.D. in leadership development from Logos University in 2006, and also served in a number of leadership positions on boards and ministries across the country, including the General Council of the Assemblies of God, the Georgia District, and AG Global Missions. He also has served as president of Calcutta Mercy Ministries from 2011.

In a statement released by Griffin First, the Valimont family said, “Pastor trusted the Lord. He leaned on him for guidance and dedicated his life to him. We will continue to do the same. The Lord has never left us. He has never forsaken us. Even in this moment, his presence is thick. Our father never looked to the left or the right but pressed on toward God’s will. Let us turn our face toward him in gratefulness and praise his name. He is still holy and has never changed.”

We are grateful for everything that Dr. Valimont contributed to making Southeastern what it is today. Please continue to keep his family in your prayers.

With great appreciation,
Kent J. Ingle, D.Min.
President
Southeastern University

Please say a prayer for his grieving family. May Pastor Randy’s soul rest in perfect peace.
