On Saturday August 10, 2019, New York City was buzzing with excitement for the Interswitch One Africa Music Fest.
The event, which was held in the upscale Ford Amphitheatre at Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York City, was a fantastic showcase of African talent, music and artistry, with an enthusiastic crowd from the African diaspora and around the world, who travelled from across the United States and internationally to attend the event.
The event showcased an impressive lineup, including A-list Nigerian artists such as Teni The Entertainer, Burna Boy, Tekno, and Eddy Kenzo from Uganda. However the highlight of the night was a surprise appearance by Haitian-born Grammy Award winner, Wyclef Jean.
Quickteller hosted a prize draw, where three winners were selected to take an all-expenses-paid trip to the Interswitch One Africa Concert in New York. The winners also shared their experience of the trip:
1. Owosegun Shonowo
“I freelance in the Advertising industry, among other things”.
“I was surfing through Instagram and saw a sponsored ad by Quickteller about the prize draw, so I just applied. I was quite surprised to receive an email telling me that I had won a free trip to the United States”.
“Incidentally, my wife had recently predicted that I would be travelling to the US soon this year, so I guess she now officially qualifies to be called a ‘prophet’.
“I was particularly excited about the nice weather in the US at this time.
“The trip was a lot of fun. You could describe me as an ‘old hand’ in terms of my involvement with Nigerian entertainment events. But I had a really good time at the One Africa Music Fest, and I think that overall, the trip was a huge success for me – on all fronts.”
2. Titilope Adedokun
“I am a Law student at the University of Lagos. It was just a normal day, when my sister sent me a message and told me about the draw and the chance to win an all-expenses paid trip to the US. So I applied, not thinking that I would win. But I did, and the rest, as they say, is history, and here I am in the US.
I must say that Quickteller really took very good care of us, I mean look at this beautiful hotel where we are lodged.
“The One Africa Music Fest is the second music concert that I have ever attended – I really enjoyed the performances, and I had a lot of fun.
“Overall, it’s been a wonderful experience, and I would like to encourage everybody out there to enter for the next Quickteller draw, to have a chance to attend the London and Dubai concerts coming up later this year.”
3. David Eze
“I am a Marketing Communications professional and entrepreneur.
“This is the first time I have won any promo and it was truly amazing!
The trip was an great experience for me. The highest point was visiting the World Trade Centre Observatory. Standing at the highest point in the world, the view was incredible. It was an amazing experience. Left to me, I could have stayed there all day.”
“The concert was amazing. There were many Africans coming together in one place in New York, not Lagos, it was mind blowing. We had Africans from Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, African Americans, all in one place, lots of performances…amazing.
“For me, One Africa is a movement. Starting from the summit. There was the One Africa Summit the day before the concert, which was amazing with different Africans coming together to share their experiences.
“The Interswitch One Africa event was an inspiration for me. It showed me that Nigerians and Africans can put together a great event. For me as an event manager, I am inspired. I look forward to managing similar great events in the future. Today, I am more convinced that it is possible, thanks to Quickteller.”
