CSP Oscar Emesim, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in charge of Administration in the Anambra command of the Nigeria Police, reportedly died in a ghastly motor accident, involving straying cattle.
Narrating how her husband met his death in the accident which occurred on the Enugu axis of the Awka-Enugu express way, the late policeman’s wife who spoke to newsmen, ACP Rita Emesim revealed that her husband was trying to avoid a herd of cattle which strayed into the expressway, when he rammed into a heavy duty truck.
The Policeman who sustained various degrees of injuries, died on the way to the hospital as he lost so much blood.
The State Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Sir Norbert Obi, who visited the widow, encouraged her to remain strong in this trying time as it was the will of God, pledging to stand by the family in this period.
Sir Nobert who noted that CSP Emesim’s death was avoidable, called on the various state governments and the federal government to be more decisive in checking the activities of these herdsmen.
This is coming few days after we reported that 4 Police officers were reportedly killed in an attack, launched by herdsmen in at Anyibe, in Logo Local Government Area of Benue state. Confirming the attack, the command’s spokesperson ASP Moses Yamu, said Logo and Guma local government areas have been under severe attacks of suspected Fulani herdsmen since the New Year, resulting in loss of lives.
According to Yamu, the killed Policemen came under the fire of insurgents at Anyibe, Logo LGA between 18.00 hours of Sunday and early Monday morning.
The Police spokesperson who further stated that the herdsmen behind the attack will be arrested soon as additional reinforcement, including the air asset of the Police, have been deployed by Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, concluded his statement by saying;
“Sadly at the moment, four casualties have been suffered by Police.”
